Market Basket Award 2016
2019 Leadership Award winners PricewaterhouseCoopers

Each year, during the luncheon portion of our Annual Conference, the MDSC honors individuals or organizations who have celebrated the rich accomplishments of people with Down syndrome. We invite members of our community or the general public to nominate those people whom you believe are most deserving of the following awards:  Media Award, Outstanding Educator Award, Allen C. Crocker Award of Excellence and Exemplary Employer Award.

Media Award
Presented to a person or company who exemplifies the MDSC's mission to disseminate up-to-date information about Down syndrome. Previous recipients have included Beverly Beckham of the Boston Globe, Amy Marcus of The Wall Street Journal, Gene Lavanchy of FOX25 News, Pat Bauer, formerly of The Washington Post, Amy Masters of WCVB-TV for producing "Chronicle", Target superstores, and MDSC member, friend, and official photographer Kyle Gendron.

Outstanding Educator Award
Presented to an educator in Massachusetts who has significantly contributed to ensuring that students with Down syndrome are given every opportunity to maximize their full potential.

Allen C. Crocker Award of Excellence
The highest award offered by the MDSC, the Allen C. Crocker Award of Excellence was established in recognition of Dr. Crocker's many years of nurturing individuals with Down syndrome and their families throughout their life's journey. The award is presented to the person who most advances the Down syndrome movement. Previous recipients include the Boston Ballet Adaptive Dance Program; Sarah Cullen and Angela Lombardo, for their outstanding work providing first response services for new parents; Madeline Will, Director of the National Policy Center of the National Down Syndrome Society; Elin Howe, Commissioner of the Department of Developmental Services; Dr. Brian Skotko, Co-Director of the Down Syndrome Program at Massachusetts General Hospital; and Timothy Shriver, social leader, activist, entrepreneur, and Chairman of Special Olympics.

Exemplary Employer Award
Established in 2016, this award is presented to an individual or company who is an exemplary employer in creating a welcoming, inclusive work environment for individuals with Down syndrome and/or other disabilities. Employers of the Year recognize the inherent value that people with Down syndrome can bring to the workforce and act as role models for other employers to emulate. They are open-minded, humane and show a desire to think outside the box to create a positive collaborative working relationship with their employee(s) with disabilities, which is beneficial for both parties. Previous winners include Arthur T. Demoulas, President of Market Basket, and VERC Enterprises.

MDSC Awards are presented each year at the Annual Conference.  Our 2020 Annual Conference will be held on March 28, 2020 at the DCU Center in Worcester.
