“Diversity is not about how we differ. Diversity is about embracing one another’s uniqueness.” —Ola Joseph
Since its inception, MDSC has been committed to building a safe, accessible, and inclusive community for all families, regardless of an individual’s race, ethnicity, culture, religion, socioeconomic status, sexual orientation, gender identification or level of disability. Our anti-bias philosophy is prevalent throughout the organization and has become embedded into all our events, activities, publications and communications.
MDSC understands that to be committed to inclusion and diversity means to be committed to constant growth, intentional connection, and learning. To that end, MDSC has a dedicated Diversity Outreach Task Force, which meets regularly to explore how to encourage inclusion and remove barriers to participation in MDSC activities.
Multi-Cultural Diversity Events
Throughout the year, the MDSC hosts diversity events including a potluck dinner, a picnic and a get-together at the annual statewide conference.
These events are intended to encourage our veteran families of diverse backgrounds to remain connected, welcome new families into our community and allow everyone from all backgrounds to get to know each other better.
Financial Assistance
To ensure that our annual statewide conference and Buddy Walk programs are accessible to all, the MDSC is pleased to offer financial assistance in the form of scholarships and transportation. A limited number of partial scholarships are available as well as free round-trip transportation from Boston to Worcester for the MDSC annual conference. MDSC Mailing Lists
All new families receive a complimentary one-year membership to MDSC. This allows you to be added to our general mailing list, or go here to select which categories to add yourself to .
In addition, MDSC keeps a mailing list specifically for families of diverse backgrounds. These families receive special invitations to our multi-cultural events.
If you would like to be added to either or both of these mailing lists, contact Sarah Cullen, MDSC Family Support Director at scullen@mdsc.org or by calling (781) 221-0024.
